Summary
Vancouveria planipetala, commonly known as Redwood Inside-Out Flower, is a perennial herb native to the understory of coastal coniferous forests, particularly those dominated by Redwoods, in Northern California and Southern Oregon. It typically reaches a modest height of 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) and can spread to about 24 inches (60 cm) wide. Its delicate, heart-shaped leaves and intricate, nodding white flowers with a hint of yellow or purple give it a unique appearance. The flowers bloom profusely in late spring to early summer and are quite showy, attracting pollinators.
Redwood Inside-Out Flower is valued for its attractive foliage and flowers, as well as its adaptability to shade gardens. It is often used as a ground cover or in woodland gardens, and it thrives under the canopy of larger plants.
