Summary
Senecio sarracenicus, commonly known as Broad-leaved Ragwort, is a tall perennial herbaceous plant native to damp grasslands, fens, and marshy areas in Europe and Western Siberia. It typically grows to a height of 60-150 cm (24-59 inches), with a spread of 30-60 cm (12-24 inches). Broad-leaved Ragwort has large, lance-shaped leaves and produces clusters of bright yellow, daisy-like flowers from late spring to early autumn. The flowers are quite showy and attract a variety of pollinators.
Broad-leaved Ragwort is valued for its vibrant yellow flowers and its ability to thrive in wet conditions, making it suitable for rain gardens and waterside plantings. It is also used in wildlife gardens to support pollinators. In cultivation, it prefers full sun to partial shade, consistently moist soil, and can tolerate poorly drained areas. While it is not commonly found in the horticultural trade, it can be propagated by seed or division in the spring. Gardeners should be aware that, like many Senecio species, it contains toxic alkaloids and should not be ingested by humans or animals. It can spread readily and may require management.CC BY-SA 4.0
