Summary

Saxifraga sibirica, commonly known as Siberian Saxifrage or Bract Saxifrage, is a semi-deciduous perennial herb that originates from the tundra and alpine regions of Northern Eurasia, including Siberia and parts of China and Japan. It is adapted to cold climates and is often found in wet meadows, along stream banks, and in moist, rocky areas. This plant typically grows to a height and width of 0.5-1 feet (0.15-0.3 meters), forming a low, mounding clump. Siberian Saxifrage is characterized by its rosettes of green, slightly toothed leaves and its clusters of small, star-shaped white flowers with distinctive red or yellow markings at the base of each petal. The flowers bloom in late spring to early summer and are quite showy, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Siberian Saxifrage is valued for its ability to thrive in cool, moist conditions and its attractive foliage and flowers. It is an excellent choice for rock gardens, alpine gardens, or as a ground cover in shady areas. It is also suitable for border fronts and can be used in container gardening. This plant prefers consistently moist soil and can tolerate a range of soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils, as long as they have good drainage. It is best grown in full sun to part shade. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly draining soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
