Sasaella ramosa, commonly known as Bamboo Grass or Broadleaf Bamboo Grass, is a semi-deciduous perennial grass native to the understory of moist woodlands and forest openings in East Asia, particularly Japan. It exhibits a rapid growth rate, reaching heights and widths of 4-6 feet (1.2-1.8 meters). This plant forms dense clumps of broad, lance-shaped leaves that can add a lush, tropical feel to the garden. The foliage remains green throughout the growing season, with some leaves persisting through mild winters.

Bamboo Grass is valued for its ability to form dense ground covers, making it suitable for erosion control and as an underplanting in woodland gardens. It is also used to create a naturalistic or Asian-inspired aesthetic in landscapes. In cultivation, Sasaella ramosa thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers medium draining soils such as clay, loam, or sandy compositions. It can tolerate a range of soil pH levels. While generally low-maintenance, it can spread through rhizomes to form extensive colonies, so root barriers or containers may be necessary to prevent unwanted spread.CC BY-SA 4.0
