Rhoicissus tridentata, commonly known as the African ivy or three-leaved cissus, is a semi-deciduous climbing vine native to woodland and forest margins, as well as rocky outcrops in southern Africa. It is part of the grape family, Vitaceae, and is not to be confused with true ivies in the genus Hedera. This vine can reach lengths of up to 13 feet (4 meters) when supported. It has a lush foliage of shiny, dark green leaves that are trifoliate, with each leaflet shaped like an ivy leaf. The plant produces small, inconspicuous greenish flowers followed by purple-black berries that are attractive to birds.

African ivy is valued for its ability to cover unsightly structures and provide dense foliage in garden settings. It is relatively easy to maintain and can be used effectively as a ground cover or for covering walls and fences. In cultivation, it prefers well-drained soil, moderate watering, and can thrive in both full sun and partial shade. It is not commonly found in nurseries but can be propagated from cuttings.
