Phymaspermum acerosum, commonly known as Coulter Bush, is a perennial shrub native to the open grasslands, rocky slopes, and scrublands of Southern Africa, particularly in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga regions. This adaptable plant typically grows to a height and width of 4-6 feet (1.2-1.8 meters), featuring a rounded form with fine, needle-like foliage that gives it a distinctive texture. The Coulter Bush produces clusters of bright yellow, button-like flowers from late summer to fall, which are moderately showy and attract pollinators.

Coulter Bush is valued for its drought tolerance and its ability to thrive in poor soils, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and low-maintenance gardens. It is also used in rock gardens, as a border plant, or as part of a mixed shrubbery. The plant prefers full sun exposure and is tolerant of a range of soil types, provided they have good drainage. While it is generally pest and disease-free, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered.
