Summary
Paepalanthus chiquitensis, an herbaceous species commonly found in the high-altitude grasslands and campos rupestres ecosystems of South America, particularly in Brazil and Bolivia. This plant is adapted to the unique conditions of tropical montane environments, where it thrives in well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade. Paepalanthus chiquitensis is characterized by its grass-like appearance, with slender, erect stems and small, inconspicuous flowers that may not be particularly showy but are ecologically significant for local pollinators.
In cultivation, Paepalanthus chiquitensis is valued for its ability to adapt to rocky, nutrient-poor soils, making it suitable for rock gardens. It is also used in restoration projects to stabilize soils and recreate native grassland habitats. While not commonly grown in home gardens, it can be an interesting addition to a collection of South American native plants. Care should be taken to provide conditions that mimic its native habitat, including good drainage and exposure to full or partial sunlight. There are no major disease issues reported, but overwatering can lead to root rot. This species is not known for aggressive roots.CC BY-SA 4.0
