Summary
Orthrosanthus multiflorus, commonly known as Australian Flag Iris, is an evergreen perennial herb native to open woodlands, grasslands, and coastal plains in Southern and Western Australia. It typically grows to a height and width of 3 feet (0.9 meters) and 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters), respectively. The plant forms clumps of strap-like leaves and is known for its striking blue to violet flowers that appear on slender, erect stems in the spring and summer months. The flowers are showy and can add a splash of color to garden settings.
Australian Flag Iris is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in a variety of soil types, although it prefers well-drained soils. Full sun to part shade is ideal for this plant, allowing it to produce the maximum number of blooms. While generally disease-free, it can occasionally suffer from root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
