Summary
Linum lewisii, commonly known as Lewis Flax, is a semi-deciduous perennial herb that is native to a variety of habitats, including prairies, open woodlands, and grassy slopes in Western and Intermountain North America. It can grow up to 80 cm tall and features spirally arranged, narrow lanceolate leaves that are 1–2 cm long. The plant produces pale blue or lavender to white flowers, often veined in darker blue, with five petals each 1–1.5 cm long. These flowers bloom from late spring to early summer and are quite showy, attracting pollinators.
Lewis Flax is valued for its hardiness and low maintenance, making it a popular choice for xeriscaping and naturalized areas. It is also used in wildflower meadows and as a border plant.
