Lilium formosanum, commonly known as Formosa Lily, is a deciduous perennial herb native to grasslands and open woodlands in Taiwan. It can reach a height of 4-7 feet (1.2-2.1 meters) with a spread of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters). This lily is known for its large, fragrant, trumpet-shaped flowers, which are typically white and can bloom from late summer to early fall. The flowers are highly showy and can add a dramatic effect to garden settings.
Formosa Lily is valued for its striking flowers and ease of growth, making it a popular choice for ornamental planting in borders, wildflower gardens, and as cut flowers. It thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. While it is generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to lily beetle infestations. Due to its vigorous growth and seed dispersal, it has become invasive in some regions outside its native range, so caution is advised when planting it.
