It typically grows at a moderate rate to a height of 3-10 feet (0.9-3 meters) with a similar spread. Koanophyllon villosum is characterized by its dense, rounded form and small, cream or white flowers that bloom in the fall, providing a subtle ornamental quality. The flowers are not particularly showy but are attractive to pollinators such as butterflies and bees. The plant’s foliage is also notable for its hairy texture, which gives the shrub its common name.

In cultivation, Florida Keys Thoroughwort is valued for its adaptability to a range of conditions and its drought tolerance once established. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained sandy or loamy soils. This shrub is often used in native plant gardens, xeriscaping, and as a component of wildlife-friendly landscapes.
