Summary

Juncus arcticus, commonly known as Arctic Rush, Wire Rush, or Baltic Rush, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to wetlands, riparian zones, and moist tundra of the circumpolar region. This includes areas in the Arctic, subarctic, and boreal zones of North America, Europe, and Asia. It typically grows to a height of 1.5-3 feet (0.46-0.9 meters) and forms dense clumps. The plant features cylindrical, wiry stems and bears brown or green flowers that are small and clustered, blooming in the summer. While the flowers are not particularly showy, they provide a subtle texture to the landscape.

Arctic Rush is valued for its ability to thrive in wet conditions and is often used for soil stabilization and restoration projects. It is also suitable for water gardens and as a marginal aquatic plant. In cultivation, it requires full sun to part shade and prefers consistently moist to wet soils, such as clay or loam with medium to slow drainage. It is relatively low maintenance but may require division every few years to maintain vigor. Arctic Rush is generally pest and disease-free but can be susceptible to rust in overly damp conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
