Summary
Ipomoea imperati, commonly known as Beach Morning Glory, is a perennial herbaceous vine native to coastal tropical and sub-tropical sand dunes and beachfront areas around the world. It typically sprawls along the ground, with stems that can reach lengths of several meters. The plant features showy white flowers that bloom from summer to fall, with a funnel-shaped corolla approximately 5 cm in diameter. The leaves are linear to lanceolate, with a waxy texture that helps conserve water in its native sandy, saline environment.
Beach Morning Glory is valued for its ability to stabilize sand dunes and prevent erosion, making it an excellent choice for coastal restoration projects. It is also used in seaside gardens for its tolerance to salt spray and its attractive flowers. In cultivation, it requires well-drained sandy soil and full sun to partial shade.
