Summary

Haworthiopsis fasciata, commonly known as Zebra Plant, is an evergreen succulent native to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. It is a small, slow-growing succulent reaching less than 10 cm (4 in) in height. The plant features distinctive, triangular-shaped leaves that are dark green with horizontal white stripes, resembling a zebra pattern, which gives it its common name. The leaves are arranged in a rosette form and end in a non-acute spine. Zebra Plant produces inconspicuous flowers during the summer, typically in October and November, on the end of an inflorescence, though the flowers are not particularly showy compared to the foliage.

The Zebra Plant is valued for its striking leaf patterns and is often used as a decorative houseplant. It is well-suited for container gardening and makes an excellent addition to succulent gardens, terrariums, or as a desk plant due to its small size and low maintenance requirements. It thrives in part shade to full shade, making it a perfect choice for gardening. The plant prefers well-draining soil and is sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to root rot. It is not known for having significant pest or disease problems, but mealybugs can occasionally be an issue. CC BY-SA 4.0
