Summary
Geranium nepalense, commonly known as Nepalese Crane’s-Bill, is a semi-deciduous perennial herb that is native to a range of habitats in Asia, from Afghanistan to Japan, including woodland edges, grassy slopes, roadsides, and riverbanks. It thrives in moist and shady conditions, often found at elevations up to 2,500 meters. This species typically grows to a height and width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters), forming a mound of deeply lobed leaves. The flowers, which appear in summer, are pink or white and are held above the foliage on slender stems, adding a delicate touch to garden settings.
Nepalese Crane’s-Bill is valued for its ease of maintenance and its ability to thrive in a variety of soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils. It is often used in border plantings, as ground cover, or in cottage gardens due to its attractive foliage and flowers. It is also appreciated for its extended flowering period and can be grown in full sun to part shade. Gardeners should be aware that in some conditions, it can spread readily, so manage its growth to prevent unwanted spread. To maintain a tidy appearance and encourage reblooming, deadheading spent flowers is recommended.CC BY-SA 4.0
