Eysenhardtia orthocarpa, commonly known as Tahitian Kidneywood, is a semi-deciduous to deciduous shrub or small tree native to arid and semi-arid regions, including desert grasslands and scrublands in the Southwestern USA and Northern Mexico. It typically grows to a height of 6-20 feet (1.8-6.1 meters) and a width of 4-12 feet (1.2-3.7 meters). The plant has an open, airy form with pinnately compound leaves and bears small, fragrant white flowers that bloom in the spring, summer, and fall, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Tahitian Kidneywood is valued for its drought tolerance, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and water-wise gardens. Its ability to thrive in poor soils and its low water requirements contribute to its ease of maintenance. It is often used in naturalistic plantings, as a screen or informal hedge, and for erosion control on slopes. The plant prefers full sun exposure and is adaptable to a range of soil types, provided they have good drainage.
