Summary
Euthamia occidentalis, commonly known as Western Goldentop, is a deciduous perennial herb native to a variety of habitats including moist meadows, wetlands, and along streambanks in the Western United States. It typically grows to a height and width of 2-5 feet (0.6-1.5 meters). Western Goldentop features narrow, lance-shaped leaves and produces abundant clusters of small, bright yellow flowers that bloom from late summer into fall, specifically from July to November, providing a long-lasting display of color.
Western Goldentop is valued for its ability to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it a beneficial addition to wildlife gardens and naturalized areas. It is also used for erosion control due to its rhizomatous growth habit. This plant is adaptable to a range of soil types, from clay to loam. It thrives in full sun but can tolerate partial shade.
