Summary
Eupatorium sessilifolium, commonly known as Upland Boneset, is a deciduous perennial herb native to open woodlands and forest edges in the Eastern United States. It can grow to a height of over 100 centimeters (40 inches), with a spread that is typically less wide than its height. The plant features lance-shaped leaves and clusters of small, fluffy white flowers that bloom in late summer to early fall, providing a modest yet attractive display.
Upland Boneset is valued for its adaptability to various soil conditions and its drought tolerance once established, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardeners. It is often used in native plant gardens, borders, and as part of pollinator-friendly landscapes, attracting butterflies and other beneficial insects. This species thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soils, though it can tolerate periods of dryness. While generally disease-free, it can occasionally suffer from powdery mildew in humid conditions. Upland Boneset is not known for aggressive roots or significant pest problems.CC BY-SA 4.0
