Summary
Eucalyptus saligna, commonly known as Sydney Bluegum, is an evergreen tree native to the coastal forests and woodlands of Eastern Australia. It can grow rapidly to a height of 30–55 m (98–180 ft), and on rare occasions, it may reach up to 65 m (213 ft). The Sydney Bluegum has a straight trunk with rough, flaky bark at the base and smooth bark higher up. Its adult leaves are lance-shaped to curved, and it produces flower buds in groups of seven, nine, or eleven. The white flowers bloom from December to March, and they are followed by woody, cylindrical, conical, or cup-shaped fruit capsules.
The Sydney Bluegum is valued for its fast growth and the shade provided by its dense canopy. It is often used as an ornamental tree in large gardens and public parks. The tree’s ability to adapt to a range of soil types, coupled with its preference for full sun, makes it a versatile choice for cultivation. However, it is important to note that Eucalyptus saligna can spread readily outside its native range, and its potential to spread should be carefully considered before planting. In its native habitat, it plays a crucial role in supporting local ecosystems and wildlife.CC BY-SA 4.0
