Summary
Eucalyptus coccifera, commonly known as Tasmanian Snow Gum, is an evergreen tree native to subalpine and alpine areas of Tasmania. It typically grows to a height of 12-45 feet (3.6-13.7 meters) and a width of 3-18 feet (0.9-5.5 meters). The Tasmanian Snow Gum has a striking appearance with smooth, white to pale grey bark that often sheds in ribbons. During the summer, it produces clusters of cream and white flowers that are attractive to bees and other pollinators. The leaves are aromatic when crushed and are a blue-green color, providing year-round visual interest.
This species is valued for its ornamental bark and foliage, as well as its ability to withstand frost and drought, making it suitable for cultivation in a variety of challenging climates. It is often used in gardens and parks for its aesthetic appeal and is also planted for windbreaks in rural settings. Eucalyptus coccifera requires full sun and can adapt to a range of soil types, provided they have good drainage.
