Draba aizoides, commonly known as Yellow Whitlow-grass, is a perennial herb that thrives in alpine and subalpine zones, particularly on calcareous substrates such as limestone rocks and walls. Its native range extends across the mountains of southern and central Europe, including the Pyrenees, Alps, Carpathians, Vosges, Jura, and other isolated areas. In the British Isles, it is notably found on the Gower Peninsula in Wales. Draba aizoides typically forms a basal rosette of linear, stiff leaves that are fringed with white bristles. From this rosette, it produces erect, leafless stems up to 6 inches tall, which carry vibrant yellow flowers that bloom in March and April. The flowers are quite showy, especially considering the plant’s small size and harsh growing environment.

Yellow Whitlow-grass is valued for its early spring flowers and its ability to thrive in rocky, well-drained soils.
