Summary
Corydalis incisa, commonly known as Incised Fumewort, is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant native to moist, shaded woodlands and along streams in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China. It typically grows to a height of 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) and spreads 12 inches (30 cm) wide. The plant features dissected leaves and loose clusters of tubular, purple or blue flowers that bloom in spring, offering a delicate and attractive display. The flowers are followed by slender seed pods that disperse seeds effectively, contributing to its invasive potential in some regions.
Incised Fumewort is appreciated for its early spring flowers and can be used in shaded garden areas, woodland plantings, or along water features. It prefers moist, well-drained soils rich in organic matter and thrives in part shade to full shade conditions. While it is relatively low-maintenance, gardeners should be cautious of its self-seeding habit, which can lead to unwanted spread. Due to its invasive nature outside its native range, it is essential to manage its growth and prevent escape into natural areas. It is an emerging invasive species in parts of the eastern United States.CC BY-SA 4.0
