Summary
Collinsia parviflora, commonly known as maiden blue eyed Mary or small-flowered collinsia, is an annual herb native to a variety of habitats including moist meadows, streambanks, and open forested areas of western and northern North America. It typically grows 12 to 18 inches tall with a slender, reddish stem and narrow, lance-shaped green leaves. The plant is notable for its delicate, two-toned flowers that appear from late spring to early summer. Each flower has lower lobes that are deep blue to purple and upper lobes that are white, creating a striking contrast. The flowers are small but can be quite showy when the plant is grown in mass.
Maiden blue eyed Mary is valued for its unique flowers and ability to thrive in part shade, making it suitable for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and naturalized areas. It prefers consistently moist soil and can tolerate a range of soil types as long as they are well-draining. While it is not drought-tolerant, it requires minimal maintenance once established. This plant can be used to add color to shady spots in the garden and is often grown for its charming flowers. It is not known to have significant disease or pest problems, but can be short-lived and may require reseeding to maintain its presence in the garden.CC BY-SA 4.0
