Summary
Cissus palmata, commonly known as Palmate Leaf Cissus or Palmate Cissus, is a vine that is native to the understory of tropical forests from Mexico to South America. This moderately growing vine can reach heights of 6-12 feet (1.8-3.7 meters) and spread 1-3 feet (0.3-0.9 meters) wide. Palmate Cissus is characterized by its compound leaves with a palmate arrangement and tendrils that allow it to climb. The green flowers are small and inconspicuous, blooming in the spring and summer, followed by non-showy black berries.
Palmate Leaf Cissus is valued for its attractive foliage and its ability to thrive in low-light conditions, making it suitable for indoor cultivation or shaded outdoor areas. It is often used as a ground cover or for covering walls and trellises in tropical and subtropical landscapes. This vine prefers part shade to full shade and grows best in medium draining loam or clay soils. It is relatively easy to maintain. While generally pest-free, it can occasionally suffer from mealybugs or scale insects.CC BY-SA 4.0
