It is native to a circumboreal distribution, which includes parts of North America, Greenland, and northern Eurasia. The plant typically grows to a height of 8-24 inches (20-60 cm) and is characterized by its lance-shaped leaves and clusters of bright to deep pink flowers that bloom in mid to late summer, adding a splash of color to the landscape.

Dwarf Fireweed is valued for its hardiness and ability to adapt to cold, harsh environments, making it a suitable choice for rock gardens and restoration projects in suitable climates. It is also appreciated for its edible qualities; the leaves and shoots can be consumed like spinach, providing a source of nutrition in its native range.
