Callitriche hermaphroditica, commonly known as Autumnal Water-Starwort, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to a variety of aquatic environments including slow-moving streams, ponds, and wetlands in subarctic and temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It typically forms dense mats on the water’s surface or submerged, with individual plants reaching only a few centimeters in height. The plant has small, inconspicuous greenish flowers that appear from late spring to early autumn, and it is adapted to both still and slow-flowing water conditions.

Autumnal Water-Starwort is valued for its use in water gardens and ponds where it provides oxygenation and habitat for aquatic life. It is relatively low maintenance, requiring only consistent moisture and can grow in full sun to part shade conditions. It is not commonly affected by diseases or pests, making it an easy plant to cultivate for both aesthetic and ecological purposes.
