Summary
Bolboschoenus maritimus, commonly known as Sea Clubrush, is an evergreen perennial grass native to coastal marshes, estuaries, and the margins of saline and brackish waters in much of the temperate Northern Hemisphere, including parts of Europe, Asia, North America, as well as to coastal areas in South Africa and South America. It typically grows to a height and width of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters), forming dense clumps of stiff, sharply triangular stems. The plant produces brownish flower spikes in the summer, which are not particularly showy but are interesting textural features. The foliage remains green throughout the year in milder climates.
Sea Clubrush is valued for its ability to stabilize soil and is often used in wetland restoration and erosion control projects. It is also suitable for water gardens and naturalized areas where it can be allowed to spread. This plant thrives in wet conditions and can even tolerate periodic flooding, making it ideal for riparian plantings. It requires full sun to part shade and prefers soils with slow to medium drainage.CC BY-SA 4.0
