Summary
Berlandiera subacaulis, commonly known as Florida Greeneyes, is an evergreen perennial herb native to the open pine woodlands, sandy fields, and scrub areas of Florida. It typically grows to a height and width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters). Florida Greeneyes has a rosette of basal leaves and daisy-like yellow flowers with a distinctive green center, blooming in the spring and attracting pollinators. The flowers are moderately showy and can add a splash of color to naturalistic plantings.
This plant is valued for its drought tolerance and its ability to thrive in poor, sandy soils, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and naturalized areas. It is often used in butterfly gardens, as a border plant, or in rock gardens. Florida Greeneyes requires minimal maintenance once established.
