Begonia pedatifida, commonly known as Hardy Foot Begonia, is a perennial herb that can be deciduous or semi-deciduous depending on the climate. It is native to forest margins and rocky areas in South-Central China, Southeast China, and Vietnam, where it thrives under the canopy of larger plants. This Begonia typically reaches a height and width of 1-2 feet, forming a mounded clump. Its foliage is distinctive, with deeply lobed leaves that add texture to the garden. The plant produces delicate pink flowers from late summer into fall, which are modest in size but can add a splash of color to shady garden spots.

Hardy Foot Begonia is valued for its foliage and its ability to flower in shaded conditions, making it an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders, or as an understory plant in tropical or subtropical areas. It prefers consistently moist, well-draining soil rich in organic matter and thrives in full to partial shade. While it is not drought-tolerant, it can be relatively low maintenance if its environmental needs are met.
