Summary
Atocion compactum, commonly known as Compact Catchfly or Pink Campion, is a perennial herb that is native to a range of habitats including dry, rocky slopes, open woodlands, and meadows in Western Asia and Eastern Europe. It exhibits a moderate growth rate and typically reaches a height and width of 0.5-1 feet (0.15-0.3 meters). The plant forms a low mound with lance-shaped leaves and bears clusters of bright pink flowers from late spring to midsummer, which are particularly attractive to pollinators.
Compact Catchfly is valued for its vibrant pink blooms and its ability to thrive in poor soils, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, borders, and xeriscaping. It is also suitable for alpine and gravel gardens. This plant is drought-tolerant once established and requires minimal maintenance, aside from occasional deadheading to promote further flowering.
