Summary
Anogramma leptophylla, commonly known as Jersey fern, is a small, delicate annual fern native to temperate and subtropical regions worldwide, including southern Europe, parts of Africa, and the Americas. It is often found in open woodlands, on forest edges, and in rocky areas with underlying granite or limestone. This species seldom exceeds 3 inches in height and features two-pinnate fronds with nearly circular leaflets. The spore cases, or sori, are linear and located on the undersides of the leaflets, facilitating spore dispersal. Jersey fern typically blooms in the spring and early summer, with its fronds adding a fine-textured element to the landscape.
Jersey fern is valued for its delicate appearance and is often used in rock gardens, as a ground cover in shaded areas, or in terrariums where its small size and intricate foliage can be appreciated up close. It thrives in moist but well-drained soil, preferring partial shade to full shade conditions. While it is not a demanding plant in terms of maintenance, it does require consistent moisture to flourish. In cultivation, it is relatively free from diseases but can suffer from overwatering or drought.CC BY-SA 4.0
