Summary
Alstroemeria aurea, commonly known as Yellow Alstroemeria or Lily of the Incas, is a herbaceous perennial plant native to the cool, mountainous regions of Chile and Argentina. It typically grows up to 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide, featuring narrow, twisted leaves and clusters of trumpet-shaped, brilliant yellow or orange flowers with distinctive streaks and speckles. The blooms appear in early to mid-summer and are highly prized for their beauty and longevity in cut flower arrangements.
Yellow Alstroemeria thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soils. It is drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping. In cultivation, it is often used in borders, containers, and as a ground cover due to its clumping habit. While it is easy to grow and maintain, it can become aggressive in some conditions, spreading through rhizomes. Gardeners should be cautious of its potential invasiveness, especially in regions with similar climates to its native habitat. To control its spread, it can be grown in containers or areas where its roots are confined.CC BY-SA 4.0
