Summary
Aconitum delphiniifolium, commonly known as Larkspurleaf Monkshood or Delphinium-Leaf Monkshood, is a perennial herb that is native to moist subalpine meadows, forest clearings, and stream banks in Northwestern North America and Northeastern Asia. It typically grows at a moderate rate to a height of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters) and a width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters). This plant features deeply lobed leaves resembling those of delphiniums and produces tall spikes of hooded, blue or purple flowers that are quite showy and bloom in the summer. The foliage is an attractive dark green, providing a nice backdrop for the flowers.
Larkspurleaf Monkshood is appreciated for its striking flowers and is often used in woodland gardens, borders, and naturalized areas. It is a good choice for adding vertical interest to partly shaded areas. While it prefers part shade, it can tolerate full sun in cooler climates. It thrives in medium draining clay or loam soils that are consistently moist. Due to its toxic properties, it should be handled with care and not planted where children or pets might ingest it. It is relatively low-maintenance but can be susceptible to crown rot if drainage is poor.CC BY-SA 4.0
