Summary
Xanthosoma robustum, commonly known as Capote, Yautia Amarilla, Pixi, or Yellow Taro, is an evergreen perennial herb native to the understory of tropical rainforests in tropical America, thriving in areas with high humidity and consistent moisture. This plant typically reaches a height of 3-6 feet (0.9-1.8 meters) and a width of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters). Xanthosoma robustum has large, arrow-shaped leaves that are a vibrant green, adding a lush, tropical feel to the garden. The flowers are green and inconspicuous, often hidden among the foliage, blooming in the summer.
Xanthosoma robustum is valued for its bold foliage which can provide an exotic texture to garden compositions. It is used in cultivation for tropical-themed gardens, as a container plant, or as an indoor specimen where climates are cooler. It requires consistently moist soil and does best in part shade, mimicking its native rainforest habitat. While it can adapt to clay, loam, or sandy soils, it prefers those that are rich in organic matter. Overwatering or poor drainage can lead to root rot, so care should be taken to ensure proper soil moisture levels. It is not typically prone to serious pest or disease problems.CC BY-SA 4.0
