Summary

Westringia eremicola, commonly known as Slender Westringia, is an evergreen shrub native to the coastal cliffs, rocky slopes, and sandy plains of Southern and Eastern Australia. It typically grows to 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) high and is characterized by its narrow, gray-green leaves and small tubular flowers that range in color from pink and mauve to white. The flowers, which are quite showy, are borne in leaf axils usually at the end of branches and can appear throughout the year, with peaks in spring and summer. The fruit is a small, non-showy mericarp 1.3–1.5 mm (0.051–0.059 in) long.

Slender Westringia is valued for its drought tolerance and its ability to thrive in coastal conditions, making it an excellent choice for seaside gardens, low hedges, and as a general-purpose ground cover in xeriscaping. It is also used in urban planting due to its resilience to wind and salt spray. This shrub requires minimal maintenance once established and can be pruned to maintain a desired shape. It prefers full sun to part shade and well-drained soils, tolerating a range of soil types from sandy to loamy. While it is generally pest and disease-free, root rot can occur in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
