Summary

Torreyostellaria jamesiana, commonly known as Tuber Starwort, is a perennial herb in the pink family (Caryophyllaceae), native to the Western and Intermountain United States. It grows in dry foothill woodlands as well as moist montane forests, typically in openings or along trails. The plant spreads via underground tubers, forming loose clusters. It usually grows 8 to 14 inches (20 to 35 cm) tall, with narrow, upright stems and opposite leaves that extend stiffly outward before curving slightly downward at the tips.

Tuber Starwort is not commonly cultivated but may appeal to native plant enthusiasts or restoration projects in montane regions. It thrives in filtered sun to partial shade, well-drained soils, and elevations ranging from foothills to montane zones. It produces small, inconspicuous white flowers in summer.CC BY-SA 4.0
