Summary
Thalictrum alpinum, commonly known as Alpine Meadow-Rue, is a deciduous perennial herb that thrives in alpine meadows, tundra, and moist, open subalpine areas in the Northern Hemisphere’s Boreal Zone and Subarctic Region. It typically grows to a modest height of 10-30 centimeters (4-12 inches). Alpine Meadow-Rue has delicate, blue-green foliage and bears small, airy clusters of white to pinkish flowers with prominent yellow stamens in late spring to early summer, which are subtly showy and attractive to pollinators.
Alpine Meadow-Rue is valued for its fine-textured foliage and ethereal floral display, making it a charming addition to rock gardens, woodland borders, and wildflower meadows. It is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal care once established in the right conditions. It prefers consistently moist soil and can tolerate a range of soil types, provided they are well-drained. While it enjoys full sun to part shade, in hotter climates, it benefits from afternoon shade to prevent scorching. Alpine Meadow-Rue is generally pest and disease-free but can be susceptible to powdery mildew in overly humid conditions. It is not known for being invasive and does not have aggressive roots, making it a safe choice for most garden settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
