Scabiosa africana, commonly known as Cape Scabious or African Scabious, is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the fynbos and grassland regions of South Africa, as well as forest edges. It exhibits a moderate growth rate, reaching heights of 2-4 feet (0.6-1.2 meters) and spreading 1-3 feet (0.3-0.9 meters) wide. The plant forms a basal rosette of leaves with tall flowering stems that bear white to pink flowers. These blooms are quite showy, appearing in the spring and summer, and are attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Cape Scabious is valued for its ornamental flowers and ability to attract wildlife. It is often used in borders, cottage gardens, and as a cut flower due to its long stems and attractive blooms. This plant is relatively low maintenance, but it does require well-drained soil and thrives in full sun to part shade conditions. It is adaptable to various soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils, as long as they provide adequate drainage.
