Romanzoffia californica, commonly known as California mistmaiden, is a perennial herb native to the moist and wet habitats of the Pacific Northwest, including coastal bluffs, streambanks, and moist mountain forests in Oregon and northern California. It typically grows erect to about 16 inches tall from a network of hairy brown tubers. The plant features rounded, evenly lobed basal leaves that form a lush ground cover. In the spring, it produces an inflorescence that is a curving cyme of showy white flowers with a distinctive yellow throat, each set in a calyx of pointed sepals, which can add a delicate texture to garden settings.

California mistmaiden is valued for its ornamental flowers and foliage, which can enhance woodland gardens and shaded borders. It is also suitable for naturalizing in moist areas of the garden. In cultivation, it requires consistently moist soil, partial to full shade, and good drainage to thrive. While it is not commonly found in the nursery trade, it can be propagated by division of tubers or by seed.
