Potentilla megalantha, commonly known as Large-Flowered Cinquefoil, is a deciduous or semi-deciduous shrub native to the mountainous regions and alpine meadows of Japan. It typically grows to a height of 0.9 feet (0.3 meters) and spreads to about 2 feet (0.6 meters). The plant forms a low mound with pinnate leaves and produces large, showy yellow flowers from late spring to midsummer, which are particularly attractive to pollinators.

Large-Flowered Cinquefoil is valued for its bright, cheerful flowers and its ability to thrive in rock gardens, borders, and as ground cover. It is also used in traditional Japanese gardens for its aesthetic appeal. This cinquefoil is drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping and gardens with low water availability. It prefers well-drained soils and can tolerate a range of soil types, from sandy to loamy. While it does best in full sun, it can also tolerate partial shade.
