Piper fluminense, commonly known as Pariparoba or Capeba, is a perennial shrub native to the Atlantic Forest biome in Brazil, particularly thriving in the understory of humid tropical forests, often near rivers and streams. This species typically grows to a height of 2-4 meters and has a bushy habit with large, heart-shaped leaves that are aromatic when crushed. Piper fluminense produces small, inconspicuous white flowers throughout the year, which are followed by tiny, spherical fruits that turn red when ripe.

Pariparoba is valued for its ornamental foliage and is used in tropical and subtropical gardens for understory planting and as a foliage accent. It is also known for its medicinal properties and is used in traditional medicine. In cultivation, it requires consistently moist soil conditions and does best in part shade, though it can tolerate a range of soil types from loam to clay, provided they have medium drainage. While not drought-tolerant, it can withstand short periods of dryness once established.
