Summary
Petrorhagia saxifraga, commonly known as Tunic Flower or Saxifrage Pink, is an evergreen perennial herb native to rocky slopes, grasslands, and open woodlands in Southern Europe, the Mediterranean, and parts of Western Asia. It typically grows to a height of 0.5-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters) and a width of 0.8-2 feet (0.2-0.6 meters). This plant forms a low mound of narrow, grey-green leaves, with numerous stems bearing small, delicate pink and white flowers that bloom profusely in the spring and summer, adding a splash of color to the garden.
Tunic Flower is valued for its drought tolerance and its ability to thrive in poor, well-drained soils, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, alpine gardens, and as a ground cover. It is also suitable for border fronts, gravel gardens, and containers. The plant requires full sun to perform best and needs only moderate watering once established.
