Osmanthus armatus, commonly known as Devilwood, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to the broad-leaved evergreen forests and thickets of Southern China. It typically reaches 8–15 feet in height and is noted for its variable leaf form; young leaves are spiny while mature leaves usually lack spines. Devilwood produces fragrant white flowers that bloom in axillary clusters in autumn, adding seasonal interest to the garden. The flowers are followed by blue-black fruit, which can attract birds and other wildlife.

Devilwood is valued for its glossy, dark green foliage, fragrant flowers, and its adaptability to a range of garden settings. It is often used in residential landscapes for hedging, as a specimen plant, or in woodland gardens. This plant prefers full sun to part shade and requires medium water, thriving in well-drained soils. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to scale insects and fungal diseases if grown in poor conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
