Summary
Maytenus boaria, commonly known as Mayten Tree, is an evergreen tree native to dry forests and the Mediterranean-like central region of Chile. It can grow up to 20 meters (66 feet) tall with a straight trunk up to 80 cm (31 inches) in diameter. The Mayten Tree has small, alternate, elliptical leaves with finely serrated margins, light green in color, measuring between 2.5 and 5 cm long. Its inconspicuous flowers bloom in spring; male flowers are brownish-yellow, while female flowers are green with purple lines. The fruit is a small, non-showy capsule.
The Mayten Tree is valued for its elegant weeping form, resembling a willow, and its adaptability to urban environments.
