Magnolia salicifolia, commonly known as Anise Magnolia, is a deciduous tree native to the moist, forested areas of Japan. It typically grows to a height of 30-50 feet (9-15 meters) and a width of 20-35 feet (6-11 meters). The Anise Magnolia is noted for its narrow, willow-like leaves and its fragrant, white flowers that bloom in early spring before the foliage emerges. The flowers are considered quite showy, and they give way to cone-like fruiting clusters in late summer that provide additional ornamental interest.

Anise Magnolia is valued for its fragrant, showy flowers and can be used as a specimen tree or in small groupings in residential landscapes and botanical gardens. It is relatively low-maintenance once established, requiring high amounts of water, particularly in well-drained, acidic soils. It thrives in full sun to part shade and benefits from protection from strong winds. While generally disease-resistant, it can be susceptible to scale insects and leaf spot.
