Summary
Leucocoryne coquimbensis, commonly known as Coquimbo Glory of the Sun, is a deciduous bulbous herb that is native to the semi-arid coastal regions and interior valleys of Chile. It typically grows to a height and width of 0.5-1 feet (0.15-0.3 meters). This plant is characterized by its slender, grass-like leaves and clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers that come in shades of purple, white, and occasionally blue, which bloom profusely in the spring. The flowers are particularly showy and make an attractive display.
Coquimbo Glory of the Sun is valued for its vibrant and fragrant flowers, which can add a splash of color to rock gardens, borders, and container plantings. It is also suitable for naturalizing in suitable climates. In cultivation, it requires full sun exposure to thrive and prefers well-drained sandy or loamy soils. It is drought-tolerant once established, requiring only low amounts of water, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping. While it is not commonly afflicted by diseases, it can be susceptible to bulb rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils. It is also important to protect it from frost, as it is not frost-hardy.CC BY-SA 4.0
