Summary
Leucadendron salicifolium, commonly known as Common Stream Conebush, is an evergreen shrub native to the fynbos biome of the Western Cape in South Africa, where it thrives in sandy soils along streambanks and in moist, open areas. This species is part of the Proteaceae family and is adapted to a Mediterranean climate with wet winters and dry summers. It typically reaches a height of 3 meters (9.8 feet) and has a similar spread. The shrub’s long, willow-like leaves are a striking feature, and its flowers, which appear from July to September, are inconspicuous, with the male and female blooms on separate plants. The male flowers are yellow, while the female flowers are greenish and less noticeable. After pollination by wind, female plants produce showy, cone-like structures that add to the plant’s ornamental value.
