Summary
Grevillea chrysophaea, commonly known as Golden Grevillea, is an evergreen shrub native to the sclerophyll forests and dry woodlands of Victoria, Australia. It typically grows to a height of 0.3–2.5 m (1 ft 0 in – 8 ft 2 in) and has a spreading habit. The foliage consists of oblong to almost linear leaves, which can add textural interest to the garden. The flowers, which are particularly showy, are dull to golden yellow with a contrasting red or orange-red style and are arranged in groups of two to eight on the ends of branchlets. Flowering mostly occurs from June to November, providing a long season of visual interest.
Golden Grevillea is valued for its vibrant flowers and ability to attract nectar-feeding birds, making it a great choice for wildlife gardens. It is also used in xeriscaping due to its low water requirements. This shrub is well-suited for full sun or part shade conditions and thrives in well-drained soils. It is tolerant of drought and poor soils, making it a low-maintenance option for gardeners. While generally pest-free, it can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils. It is not known to be invasive when grown outside its native range, but as with all non-native plantings, gardeners should monitor and manage growth as necessary.CC BY-SA 4.0
