Summary
Geranium libani, commonly known as Lebanese Geranium, is a semi-deciduous perennial herb found in rocky slopes and scrubland in the Middle East, particularly Lebanon, as well as in Turkey. It typically grows to a height of 20–60 centimeters (7.9–23.6 inches). The plant has distinctly petiolate leaves divided into five lobes, which may turn red in autumn, adding to its ornamental value. Its flowers, which bloom from March to June, are showy and purple, with a diameter of 4 to 10 cm, attracting pollinators such as bees. The fruit is a 3 cm capsule with pubescent valves, which adds interest after the flowering period.
Lebanese Geranium is appreciated for its vibrant purple flowers and the seasonal color change of its foliage. It is suitable for rock gardens, borders, and as a ground cover in areas that mimic its native rocky habitats. This plant prefers full sun to part shade and requires moderate to high amounts of water, along with well-drained soil to thrive. While it is generally easy to maintain, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils. Lebanese Geranium is not known for being invasive and is not typically associated with serious disease or pest issues.CC BY-SA 4.0
