Summary
Eriogonum trichopes, commonly known as Little Desert Trumpet, is an annual herb native to arid regions such as desert washes, rocky slopes, and sandy plains in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It typically varies in height, often reaching up to 1 foot (30 cm). The plant has a distinctive appearance with woolly or stiff-haired basal leaves and a naked, sometimes hairy inflorescence. The bright yellow flowers, which bloom from late spring to early fall, darken to reddish with age and are quite showy, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Little Desert Trumpet is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in poor, well-drained soils, making it a suitable choice for xeriscaping and rock gardens. It requires minimal maintenance once established and can add a splash of color to arid landscapes. In cultivation, it prefers full sun and is adapted to hot, dry conditions. While not commonly used in large-scale plantings, it can be an interesting addition to native plant gardens or as an accent in mixed borders.CC BY-SA 4.0
